Probably the most striking departure from the usual production of Hamlet is the abandonment of textbook definitions of characters. Old men become femmes fatales, lords become vicious, brutal louts. In fact Hamlet’s father’s ghost is far from benign and is out for revenge! The original text has not been changed at all but the way it is delivered has. Fodor, the director, has the actors speaking as though they are making it up as they go along. Year 13 drama student’s review An innovative and creative production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, with all the characters manipulated to create an extreme ghost story, which pushes imagination to the limits. It mesmerises its audience with its use of almost photographic slides instead of the normal cinematic process, causing the spectator to be almost hypnotised and fascinated by the action. From a drama studies point of view it was inspiring and amazing to watch. |
