Oat baths have been used for years to soothe sensitive skin and eczema troubles, literally putting porridge oats into a tepid bath, it works really well, but having the oats floating around and sticking to you or your baby is a bit messy and whizzing them into a powder in a blender first is a bit of a hassle, so we were thrilled to try out the Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Baby Emollient Wash.
It was brilliant, you squidge a bit in while running the bath and it saves having to struggle to put moisturiser on a wriggly baby. It's perfect not only for eczema, but also for cooling down a hot tired baby after a sunny day. They also do an emollient cream which is great for stubborn dry patches, Elspeth gets dry bits on the tops of her feet and I have already noticed a difference after only using the cream for a few days.
The range includes a Baby Moisturizing Lotion, Baby Hair and Body Wash and a Baby Gentle Wash – developed with newborn babies in mind, which are also really lovely, but my absolute favourite products are the Baby Cleansing Milk and the Baby Barrier Cream. The cleansing milk is perfect for faces and bottoms (suitable for the whole body too) with a bit of cotton wool, there's no need for water and no need to rinse it off, so it's a brilliant way to clean when your in a hurry or out and about (it has now become a must for our nappy bag) and the barrier cream is just amazing, it's unscented and suitable for newborns, and it the best nappy cream we've come across, it's very soothing and clears up nappy rash really quickly.
What I really love about these products is that a lot of them are unscented, but the ones that are have that lovely clean, powdery, baby smell, I'm not a fan of Elspeth smelling sickly sweet and fruity I like it best when she just smells like a baby.
