When you’re under
stress you are probably
breathing very
shallowly. This
limits the amount of
oxygen going into the
lungs and so the blood receives an
inadequate supply.
Shallow breathing can lead to:
- exhaustion,
- irritability,
- low energy levels,
- and therefore more stress!
Deep breathing can help break the
vicious circle. It
relaxes your body and
mind so that you can
examine your negative
thoughts and replace them with more
positive ones.
But it’s easy to
think we have taken
five minutes out to
relax when we haven’t really
done so. This is where
Beautiful Calm triumphs.
I have
listened to numerous
relaxation tapes/CDs and usually find them
irritating! And there's
only so much of listening to
ocean waves a person can take. With
Ananga Sivyer's
Beautiful Calm I loved the
music and her
voice didn't grate on the ear - nor was she
patronising.
What I
particularly like about
Beautiful Calm is that the
cover tells you exactly
how long each guided breathing/meditation
takes.
So if you only have
three minutes to spare try the
MIndfulness Meditiation. As long as
nine minutes? Then work through the
Buddhist Meditation.
The
first CD provides you with eight
step-by-step guided relaxation and
meditation experiences taking you into a state of
peacefulness.
The
second CD allows you to let
tension drain away to the sound of
bamboo flutes, Tibetan bowls and other
traditional meditative instruments.
I'd
recommend loading the first CD onto your
iPod or MP3 player and taking
time out during the day - you can do
most of the exercises
anywhere so
ideal for on the
journey home on
public transport!
Ananga Sivyer has been practising
meditation herself for over
20 years and is also a
flautist and music
composer specialising in
creating relaxing
soundscapes.
