ENB Swan Lake in the round

Derek Deane’s spectacular Swan Lake in-the-round at the Royal Albert Hall comes to cinemas for the first time from Wednesday 30 October to 3 November, giving families across the UK the chance to experience the true splendour of the iconic classic on a magnificent scale.

I have enjoyed many filmed stage productions and have appreciated them all for the different perspectives they offer. Swan Lake in-the-round is no exception. Derek Dean's production is given an unique and unmissable 360° view of one of the most popular ballets of all time. As I was sent a screening link, I was watching the ballet on my desktop so did not experience the full cinematic treat. Nevertheless I it was a joyful event.

Watching 60 dancing swans from above was exquisite. And what you also get is close-ups of the dancers and their expressions which you wouldn't see from most seats in the Royal Albert Hall. It evokes a much greater sense of intimacy with the characters.

With Deane's impeccable choreography and direction plus Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score, played live by English National Ballet Philharmonic, the film will take audiences to the very heart of this celebrated classic.

This production features Lead Principal Sangeun Lee as Odette/Odile and Principal Gareth Haw as Prince Siegfried, as they portray the romance, passion and bretrayal, manipulated by the evil Rothbart danced by James Streeter in dance, capturing all the magic of the beloved ballet.

From the breath-taking spectacle of shimmering swans moving in unison, to the captivating romance between Prince Siegfried and the Swan Queen Odette, this is cinema bursting with beauty, passion and betrayal.
