NHS Choices and talkhealth have teamed up with patient support charity Action Against Allergy and The King's College London Allergy Academy to present an Online Clinic on Hay Fever and Environmental allergies from 27 April to 3 May 2012.
The clinic will be hosted on all talkhealth sites, with leading allergy experts on hand throughout the whole of the week to answer your questions. You will be able to communicate directly with the experts who include Dr Adam Fox, Dr Helen Brough, Dr Rubaiyat Haque and Dr Joanna Lukawska.
Allergic rhinitis, the medical term for hay fever and environmental allergies, is when an allergen causes the inside of your nose to become swollen or inflamed.
Hay fever is a common allergic condition that can affect up to one in five people at some point in their life. Symptoms include sneezing, a runny nose and itchy eyes and occurs when a person has an allergic reaction to pollen. You can have an allergy to tree, grass and weed pollen.
Other allergic rhinitis allergens can include animal hair, house dust mites and mould. Severe hay fever can have a significant impact on quality of life. Identifying and avoiding the trigger is the recommended action but as many sufferers know this isn't always easy.
