A few days ago I saw a meme on social media of a mother (could be any adult) and a child holding hands on a walk. Each had a thought bubble. The mother's contained all the negative thoughts we parents are prey to from "am I a good enough parent" to "will I be able to support her...".
The child's thought was simply, "I love her." A beautiful depiction of how children love their parents.
This is beautifully illustrated by I Love You Because I Love You by Mu'o'n Thi Van. Each double page spread gives an aspect of life and a relationship and how it affects the children and adult alike. For example:
"I love you because you're here."
"Because I love you, I am here."
The words on the page are tender, heartwarming and apply to a multitude of situations which can open up a dialogue about relationships and what we do for each other. I found this book positively life affirming.
Of course the illustrations by Jessica Love are also inspiring, inclusive and ethnically diverse, including all sorts of situations with the adults in a child's life.
A perfect love story we can all learn from.
I Love You Because I Love You by Mu'o'n Thi Van and illustrated by Jessica Love is published by HarperCollins and is available from bookshops and online.
