Mindfulness has become a "buzz" word but there is no doubt from the mass of research as well as anecdotal evidence that it can change the way you feel and act especially in relation to pain – both physical and mental. Meditation is a powerful tool and those who practise it regulalry extol its benefits.
In Mindfulness for Health, the two authors, Vidyamal Burch and Danny Penman, share their personal experiences of ill health and pain and how these have shaped their work on mindfulness meditation.
Many people may have misconceptions about meditiation, but I urge you to read Mindfulness for Health for a down-to-earth, step by step guide that is easy to follow and only requires two ten minute sessions a day.
Mindfulness for Health comprises an eight week programme of eight guided meditations which you should practice for six days each that are on the accompanying CD included with the book. Mindfulness for Health gives you all you need to understand how to meditate as well as where and when. There are also extra breathing meditations included like a breath awareness exercise you can do hourly.
I have started the course and would recommend Mindfulness for Health to anyone who wishes to get to grips with stress as well as any physical pain you may be experiencing.
