Libraries mean so many things to different people.
Libraries now are often the hub of a
community and many are now sadly under
threat of closure. Books,
newspapers and magazines, PC access, reference,
DVDs, research and information services,
children's activities, adult events,
local history the list goes on.
Celebrate your
library while you can! Find out what
activities are being offered on
National Libraries Day.
Last year the UK lost more lan
200 library branches as local authorities are looking to identify
savings and reduce their spending and this situation will get worse according to experts.
The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) has predicted that in 2013, more than
1,100 library staff will be lost, 1,720 opening hours a week will be cut and £22.5m will be cut from
public library spending.
Library lovers should support their local branches particualrly on
National Libraries Day.
