Papertoy Monsters contains 50 models
to make with ten blank templates to design your own. The designers of these
papertoys are apparently some of the most highly regarded designers of papertoys in the world. The designs
indeed do seem to be very impressive, with monster names such as Lobo, Horgue
, Zumolla , Evil Icy and Squidbeak being amongst my children’s favourites. Papertoy Monsters proved to be a great hit
during a visit to a family member at half term who is very low on 21st century
technology (she has a TV with 5 channels). The iPod touch was limited (no wifi) and the DS was
restricted after a while. Out came the Papertoy Monster book and both my nine year
old son and 13 year old daughter were engaged for a number of hours over the
few days of our visit. The only small concern is what do we do with them now?
They proved a little flimsy on the journey home (inadvertently ended up near
the bottom of a bag) and I think these sort of things are notorious dust traps
when displayed on shelves. My plan
is on a wet Sunday afternoon that we gather them together and make them into
mobiles to hang from bedroom ceilings or under high beds.
We’ve still plenty to
make and I plan to turn them into a party game at my
sons tenth birthday in a few months' time.
