I had never been to a Premier Inn before when I booked for Harriet and I to stay in the Margate hotel for a couple of nights. The online booking was easy and I also booked in online hoping that if our room was available we'd be let in earlier. Sadly this was not to be but we left our luggage and made for the beach.
The Margate Premier Inn is ideally situated – it is across the road from the seafront and, for those travelling by train, two minutes walk from the station. Dreamland is just a few minutes' walk away.
I had booked a double room and they had made up the sofa bed for Harriet. The re was a flat screen TV and tea and coffee-making facilities as well as a hair dryer. The bathroom had a bath which Harriet prefers but I would take your own shampoo and conditioner. Towels were fine. Our view wasn't great as we overlooked the bins but we didn't plan to be in the room much during daylight hours.
Having stayed in other budget – and more expensive – hotels, what particularly impressed me was the quality of the breakfast at the Premier Inn. Extremely good value at £9.95 for the full breakfast and children eat for free. We were asked to book a time when we checked in but there was no problem in changing this which just seemed to be for monitoring food. On offer were various fruit juices, tea and coffee, fruit, yogurt, cereals, croissants and, Harriet's favourite pain au chocolat plus hot food which included vegetarian options. When I asked if the scrambled eggs were made with milk, I was told yes but the staff member offered to make me some milk free. Even more impressive, she remembered and asked me if I would like them again the following day. They also provide an ice/water machine which meant we could top up our water bottles without having to resort to water in plastic bottles.
The first evening we had dinner at the Edessa Turkish Restaurant and the second we ate at the Brewer's Fayre restaurant attached to the hotel which, again, provided good quality food and made Harriet a side dish of macaroni cheese as this wasn't on the children's menu.
All the staff were really friendly and the standard of service was excellent and I thoroughly recommend a family visit.
