National Road Safety Week – free spooky Pac-A-Macs from Texaco

publication date: Nov 10, 2008

Keeping children safe on the roads, especially in the dark winter months, remains an important issue. According to Department for Transport statistics, last year 3,090 children were killed or seriously injured in road accidents and of those, 1,899 were pedestrians. In total 121 children died on the roads in 2007.

Since 2006 Hector, whose stories were animated last year by triple Oscar winners, Aardman Productions for the Texaco brand, has brought road safety to life for children through his vivid imagination featuring talking telepathic cycle helmets and even a cross, cross-eyed zebra.

The ghost Pac-A-Macs are themselves inspired by one of these stories - Hector and the gang of ghastly ghostly ghosts, which highlights the importance of wearing reflective clothing to children.

Hector’s stories are available in a series of five children’s books and a DVD.

The Ghostly Gowns which reflect light in the dark, are designed for children aged six to ten.

In addition to the Ghostly Gowns, Chevron and its Texaco brand are bringing Hector and his road safety messages to schools this autumn. Via a tour of primary schools in England and Wales and imaginative and interactive lesson plans, children will be able to experience Hector and his road safety messages first hand.
