I got the So Sensory Light-Up Unicorn World from Canal Toys for my five year old granddaughter. Like many girls around her age, she loves unicorns and anything to do with them. Most of her unicorn toys are pretty enough but they don’t really provide much stimulation. Not so the So Sensory Light-Up Unicorn World! It’s packed with different options for creating her own unicorn world, to act out fantasies about a beautiful world - for unicorns.
The beauty of this toy is that she can start again next day and make a different version. The many components make for endless possibilities: there are three different characters, a whole bag of “rocks”, some clay bags, a cutting mould and so on. The LED lights – there’s a string light for example – provide another, sensory aspect to the child’s playtime.
Each time a version of her own special unicorn world has been created, the new world, in its plastic dome, becomes a fun ornament for her bedroom. I saw that the recommended age range is six plus but in my opinion the So Sensory Light-Up toy would also be suitable for many five year olds (definitely not for the under threes though, due to the inclusion of small parts).
Some adult supervision is recommended of course but I found that the best thing for parents (and of course grandparents!) is that the So Sensory Light-Up Unicorn World leads to some long periods while your child is really absorbed in imaginary play and creative “building”.
