Staying Young highlights the importance of
nutrition and the role it plays, not only in the way
we feel but also in the way
we look.
We are
constantly reminded in the media about the
foods we should eat to maintain a
healthy body but personally I think we often forget the
significance of the correct,
nutritious foods in the way we look. With the
pressure from the
beauty companies, we are rather too quick to apply
various creams and lotions to make us look
younger and more
attractive in the belief that that is all we
need.
Charmain Yabsley's book highlights extremely well, how
eating healthily and at the same time
enjoying the foods that we prepare, has a
huge impact on external
beauty as well as internal
health.
Staying Young is divided into
four very clear
sections:-
- The Path to Natural Beauty – here the concept of natural beauty is explored, how healthy foods impact on our state of health both inside and out, the importance of relaxation and how our emotional health impacts on our physical well-being.
- Beauty Food Pharmacy – these are short chapters on individual foods, outlining their vitamin content and other beneficial properties. This chapter also includes star foods, such as eggs, avocados, lemons, strawberries, and pomegranates etc, which contain sections on the history of each individual food, its health profile, beauty-boosting properties, a recipe and a treatment.
- Natural Beauty Clinic – a collection of remedies and recipes for specific health problems, which focus on areas such as the skin, eyes, hair, nails, lips and teeth.
- Recipes, Treatments and Therapies – this section contains over a 100 recipes, with options for all dietary requirements, together with a selection of beauty treatments for the skin, hair and nails, using all natural ingredients.
Staying Young is very
clearly written in a style, which is easy to
understand without any
unnecessary jargon or complicated explanations. The book is
effectively illustrated and in particular some of the
delicious recipes are enhanced with
mouth-watering illustrations.
What I found particularly useful was the summary of each chapter of the book in the introduction and also at the beginning of each chapter itself. This made it easier to browse through and easily find what you are looking for.
Staying Young is the kind of book you would leave
accessible in the kitchen or on the
coffee table in the lounge, where people can pick it up and
browse through the different
sections. In fact this is just what my
15 year old daughter did, when she discovered a
lemon juice astringent treatment designed to cleanse, freshen and tone the skin, which she was
interested in trying.
I would
recommend this book as highly interesting,
informative, easy to read and
beneficial to one's general health and well-being.
