Stories for Boys Who Dare to be DifferentGoodnight Stories for Rebel Girls, the antidote to fiction depicting girls as feeble princesses and so on, has been a phenomenal success which has been followed up with a second book. Now we have Stories For Boys Who Dare To Be Different by Ben Brooks and illustrated by Quinton Winter.

This book is the antidote to prince charmings and brave hunters. The 100 role models in Stories For Boys Who Dare To Be Different are stories of famous and not to famous men throughout the ages who have broken rules and innovated in their own way.

So we read about a range of talented men from Mozart to Mandela, from Rimbaud to Barak Obama. We learn that Charles Fourier was the first to use the word "feminism" when writing about equal opportunities over two hundred years ago and Lionel Messi a talented young footballer who needed expensive medication for growth hormone deficiency. His footballing skills meant Barcelona signed him up and paid for his treatment. He remained loyal to them and runs his own charity.

There has been some debate about producing books for either girls or boys. Personally I think both Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls and Stories For Boys Who Dare To Be Different could and probably should be read by both genders.
