We can't all plan our
rail travel in advance to get
cheaper tickets and standard on the
day fares are often astronomical.
However the
MoneySavingExpert has designed a
free app to save money on scores of
routes by
splitting the ticket. For example a
Glasgow to Sheffield walk on
single costs £104. However the train stops at
Chorley. So the
app suggests buying two tickets:
Glasgow to Chorley and
Chorely to Sheffield. The combined cost of these
two tickets was
£60 – a saving of
£44!
The
TicketySplit Lite tool lets people locate
hidden ticket combinations to slash
train fares. The app is
free – just key in a
journey, and it hunts for
where to split, where it's cheaper to do so, and gives the
saving.
To
buy tickets, ask at
station kiosks (not machines) for the
separate tickets. You can buy tickets for anywhere at any station. A
guard can ask you to
get off and on the train, but that was only ever heard happening
once in six years.
