War of the Worlds is the first in a series of reissues of older comic book versions of classic texts, in this case the H G Wells story. We all found it graphically very exciting and, as far as I remember, quite close to the original book. It was an easy but thought-provoking read. I loved the illustrations and the brightness of the colour.

There was also some serious information at the end about the context of the original story and questions to think about, rather in the style of those aimed at adult book groups. The text would be very useful for Year 6 teachers doing a topic on science fiction: as an early example of the genre.

I thought War of the Worlds was excellent and would buy the others in the series, which are forthcoming, if I saw them in WHSmiths. They are  reasonably priced, so pocket-money out!

Classics Illustrated (priced £2.99) for readers aged nine to 14 and Classics Junior (priced £2.50) for the younger reader are published in the UK by Classic Comic Store Ltd and are available from WHSmith.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs by the Brothers Grimm is the first in the Classics Junior series.
