The spa at the Athenaeum Hotel in Piccadilly was a truly indulgent experience, just right for relaxing and unwinding at the end of a busy working week. I went with a friend and on arrival at the spa reception, we were shown into the changing area, given about five minutes to get ready and put on our robes, before being met and ushered into the subtly lit treatment room, where soft, low level music was playing.
We were both shown into the same room, as the treatment price was based on two people sharing. One of the therapists explained in what order the treatments would be given. We started with a back massage, which was so restful and relaxing, almost sending me off the sleep. This was followed by a head massage which was equally calming and relaxing.
The facial was in fact a complete facial experience consisting of cleansing, toning and exfoliating, together with a rejuvenating facial massage using natural Damask Rose water, so as to stimulate circulation and purify the skin. This was finished with the application of a hydrating mask.
To complete the treatment our hands and arms were massaged, which was surprisingly restful and soothing.
This whole treatment lasted about 90 minutes but afterwards we made use of some of the facilities available at the hotel spa – jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym. Exercise wear is needed for the gym and swimwear for the jacuzzi. We both left the hotel feeling thoroughly relaxed and stress-free.
We booked on line through lastminute.com and the offer price of £150 was for two people sharing the cost in a double treatment room.
