The family was very impressed with the recently opened Greenwich Wheel and the spectacular views in all directions as the wheel goes around.
Based in the grounds of the Naval College near the river, it is in a wonderful position for views of Greenwich, the river and the surrounding area. It is much smaller than the London Eye on the South Bank but just as exciting as the pods/gondolas are smaller and it has a greater sense of movement.
The ride takes about ten to15 minutes depending on how many times the wheel takes you around. The Wheel is easily accessible in Greenwich, the staff were friendly and all the family felt safe and secure throughput the ride.
Highly recommended for a treat with family and friends on a clear day!
The gondolas can seat up to six adults and two children and for this private gondola it would cost £30 which I think is excellent value but may be a little too cramped.
The price for a single adult is £7 and children (under 16) £4.50 and a champagne VIP gondola for four persons is £80! It would be a fun experience to have a £30 gondola with a group of friends on a visit to Greenwich.
The Greenwich Wheel is one of many events happening at the Old Royal Naval College this summer; visitors to the college will also be able to see the free-entry Painted Hall and Chapel, or take a guided tour.
To make a day of it, other Greenwich attractions worth visiting include:
The vibrant Greenwich Market is open Wednesday to Sunday with a new food market on Wednesdays, while the World Heritage Site has some of south east London’s best pubs, restaurants.
