Thomson Al Fresco certainly seem to have thought of most things a
family would need to feel comfortable
on holiday in one of their
mobile homes. We stayed in the
Rossini version which is
perfect for small
children and
toddlers – all the
electrical sockets are well
out of reach and the
kitchen area is set out so that anything in a
cupboard that could be opened by a
small hands
contained nothing breakable.
The
Rossini has two bedrooms:
one double and a
twin plus there is a
sofabed in the living area. Olivia and Harriet shared one room (the
second single bed slips away under the first to make room for the
cot). A point
to
note here there were
no bedside lights in the twin room so if you're with
children who like
to
read before they go to
sleep, bring
torches (there is
one already in the chalet).
Although the
Altomincio parc description on the
Thomson Al Fresco website says "
car essential" we proved that is not so! We flew to
Verona and had a taxi to the
parc. As we had to travel with no
baggage allowance for Harriet we arranged for the
linen packs which can be
hired. This contained only
one towel per
person and you really do need more. We had brought
towels for use at the
pool but another time I'd
bring more.
The
booking in is at 3.00pm and we
arrived somewhat earlier. If you were
hiring a car or driving to the
parc you'd obviously
stop off on the way and
stock up on essentials like
loo rolls and
food. We had to wait for the parc
supermarket to open at 4.00pm. The
welcome pack contains tea bags
and sachets of coffee and sugar but no milk – two
beers and an
orange drink in
the fridge – so if you arrive
before 4pm you'll not be able to buy
milk.
Having said that we had a
wonderful time. Both Olivia and I were
impressed with the
layout of
Rossini and the
contents: microwave, fridge/freezer, BBQ,
decked veranda with another table and set of chairs plus a
clothes airer. In front of
veranda we had lawn and plants plus
sun loungers and reclining chairs.
Back inside, the loo is
separate from the
shower room
(plus point) and our
baby pack included a
baby bath plus travel cot,
safety
gate and a
high chair.
The standard of
accommodation is
excellent with plenty of
storage space. Safety is taken care of as well. In addition to the
smoke alarm there's a
carbon monoxide detector and a fire blanket. As well as being able to pay for
air con there were
electric fans for each room.
Harriet loved tottering around,
waving to passers-by and falling in love with her
image reflected on the oven door! We all felt very
relaxed with
no hazards around for infants and
small children. Just what you need for a
good holiday.
