My son loves books, so I was pleased to receive Bad Apple by Hugh Lewis Jones and Ben Sanders and have the opportunity to review the book.
A brilliantly illustrated hard back book with great quality paper pages. It smells great (I can't be the only one who likes to give books a good sniff) I had a quick flick through myself before introducing it to my little mini me, and was excited to show him. It’s a short rhyming story, which I know my son loves so I was already thinking it was going to be a hit in this house.
We sat down to read it together and I was thrilled that my son (age five) was able to read some of the words (using his newly acquired phonics skills), guess the rhymes and spot Mr Pea (who you’ll find on every page).
As a parent I like to choose books and stories that raise an issue we can discuss. This story is great for talking about the importance of being kind and waiting your turn and the possibilities Bad Apple missed for sharing. Whenever snakes are involved it always piques my little lad’s interest so the twist at the end of the book was great.
There are also some nice moments throughout for parents to give a wry smile. And my son gave the story a "super love".
Overall Bad Apple is a lovely addition to any family book collection. Great concept with simple, clean and bright illustrations.
