My daughter and her friend ended the half-term break by been treated to watch the screening of Barbie™ The Pearl Princess at Vue Piccadilly in Central London. Face painting before the screening, glitter tattoos, luscious cake pops and popcorn helped set the scene for an enjoyable day out.
In Barbie™ The Pearl Princess Barbie plays Lumina, a mermaid who has always dreamt of being a princess. She carries within her the power to use pearls to create magic. This of course becomes handy as she helps her friends to prepare for a royal ball. At the ball, villains try to seize power over the kingdom, and Lumina, together with her best friend, a pink seahorse called Kuda, uses her talent to not only save the kingdom but also to unlock her true destiny.
This film is suitable for younger children* as there are no scary scenes. It runs for 70 minutes, and kept their interest throughout. My daughter and her friend enjoyed watching it, especially the scene where Barbie works as a hairstylist customising mermaid’s hair in preparation for the ball. Afterwards they both agreed that their favourite character was Barbie, followed by Kuda and the stonefish.
I would imagine that all children who love Barbie, princesses or mermaids would enjoy this film.
*Harriet (four in April) watches Barbie™ The Pearl Princess on DVD and loves it.
