The three hour
Colour Me Beautiful experience passed in a flash and was utterly enjoyable,
enlightening and luxurious. Lucy immediately put me
at ease and started by asking a
few questions about lifestyle, work,
shopping habits, what I liked to wear,
make-up and what I hoped to get from the
session. As somebody who
loves clothes but no longer has the time to spend
scouring the markets and charity shops for
precious pieces (as I did pre-children), I was keen to
update my style and re-gain
confidence in my wardrobe rather than hiding behind
comfort or familiarity with old
faithful clothes.
Colour consultationLucy looked at my
skin tone, eye and hair colour to
show me how to wear colours which
best complemented my colouring. She quickly draped
different fabric colours around my neck deftly holding up
cool or warm colours and
soft or clear ones before concluding that my
dominant colour is "light with cool and soft undertones".
I was given a
wallet with
42 fabric swatches and colour combination
tips to keep. The colours are
inspiringly gorgeous and I have spent evenings going through my wardrobe
re-discovering clothes that I’ve not worn for many years but am now enjoying and
putting together in exciting
new ways.
Colour Me Beautiful puts an emphasis on
making the most of ourselves by
finding shades that best
compliment our natural colouring and
dressing in clothes that suit our
personality, lifestyle and
body shape. The consultation has given my
existing wardrobe new vitality and life. I can go through it seeing
new opportunities and understanding why
certain items never get an
outing – chances are they should
never have been there in the first place.
The
make-up Lucy applied was
natural yet slicker than I usually wear. My
make-up bag still contains the
products I bought to get married in
eight years ago and they’ve not needed replacing yet, something she wasn’t in the least surprised about once discovering my "
style personality". I felt comfortable with the
finished result and purchased the
foundation and cover up from her whilst enjoying the
tips and list of
suitable make-up shades.
S
tyle consultation This shows how to express your
personality through your
wardrobe, select the most
flattering styles and
fabrics for your
body shape and emphasise all the good bits. I also loved the
emphasis on
timeless style over following fashion.
A questionnaire gave me my "s
tyle personality": natural creative which seemed to
fit perfectly, combining my love of a
vintage one-off charity shop or market find with my
practical and more
disorganised side.
From there
face, body shape and proportions are looked at to make sure clothes lines, details and fabrics
best compliment the figure. At this point I
tried on a couple of
items Lucy had advised bringing – something I r
eally like and something I’m
not sure about. She offered great honest, practical and
confidence-building advice on how flattering she felt different pieces were. We talked about
customising and altering pieces which "
almost" worked. Along with the
colour wallet I took home a
Style Workbook with notes on all the things we had
discussed.
The
entire experience was wonderful, a
treat in the truest sense and I will certainly be following the tips
Colour Me Beautiful has given me from now onwards.
