Organix Recipy Bases and Organix Paste Pots: when offered the chance to
review these I snapped them up. As a mum to a
two year old that’s always getting "bored" with foods and a
ten month old that can’t seem to control herself when it comes to shoveling the next bit of food into her little mouth, it’s always
good to try new things.
Cook with Organix Recipe Bases are made with a base of either
rice or
pasta along with herbs, spices and some
vegetables thrown in ready and waiting for you to add a few extras to make it into a
complete meal. They’re aimed to be cooked quickly (within five minutes) so are
perfect for busy mums and dads wanting a quick meal prepared for their little ones. There are
recipes on each container to follow and there are also other suggestions to try on the
Organix website. The
Recipe Bases come in a pot that you’re supposed to
halve and use as
two separate portions. I found it a bit fiddly/unnecessary and almost made me not want to use it – lazy I know, but if it were already separated I think I’d find it much more useable. It’s not really an issue if like me you have
two children as you would be using it all in one go anyway. In this case though, as we were
trying them out, I did split them into two just to try them with
different recipes to see how different the taste could possibly be.
Mexican Rice & Sweetcorn Recipe Base: the first portion we made up how the
recipe on the package suggested but missed out the peas. Both children absolutely loved it and were wanting more but I refrained and made the
second portion into something different, with this we added
chopped chicken which was also a big hit.
Herby Vegetable Pasta: the pasta stars in this got both kids excited. We tried this with the
recipe on the package (Creamy Chicken and Sweetcorn) but they both hated it, I then used the
second portion missing out the
cream cheese and just adding in some tomatoes and
they both loved it and ate every bit. I’d definitely get this one again as they really enjoyed it.
Cook with Organix Paste Pots – these are little pots of paste,
full of flavour with herbs and spices and are aimed at parents wanting to introduce
more exciting flavours to their little ones and who have a bit more time on hand (
30 minutes) to almost be cooking from scratch. Again, there are clear
recipes and instructions on the packaging.
Each
Paste Pot has enough in it to make
three to five portions. Although these are designed to be cooked in one go, portioned out and the remaining portions be put in the fridge or freezer, I found that the pair of them were wanting extra and I "might" have had to have some too …yum!
One thing
I would change about the
Paste Pots is the fact that they come in a pack of
two different flavours, this is great whilst you’re trying out
new flavours with your child but not so great if only one flavour is liked which would then mean you would be essentially wasting a pot every time you buy them.
Mild Tikka & Mild Korma: both of these flavours were a
big hit with my little ones, I used the
recipes on the pack as a guide to create
chicken and
vegetable curries with whatever I had the fridge and cupboard.
Tomatoey Red & Herby Green: the tomatoey red went down a
treat as the suggested
Bolognese with extra vegetables whilst the herby green was
liked but not wolfed down as quickly as the other pots in the form of the suggested
vegetable pasta on the pack. The
taste of the paste itself though was
very nice so I’m going to buy some more and try with chicken to see if they like it more then.
Overall
both children really enjoyed trying
new flavours and things to eat, these
Paste Pots are a great idea and I only wish I had them a year and a half ago when Scott was Alexa’s age and first became fussy! They’re
ideal for parents in a rush and also for those that have a
bit more time and want to
create a meal from scratch full of flavour but without having to select and prepare all the herbs and spices themselves.
