Mention hair extensions and do you picture footballers wives, celebrities or women with plenty of bling? Think again. Thousands of us are wearing hair extensions. They are one of our best kept beauty secrets – and they are great for gorgeous mums.
Racoon International is the country’s leading hair extension provider supplying over 5,000 salons in the UK and over 7,000 worldwide. That’s an awful lot of women who have turned to hair extensions to give added volume, a splash of colour or additional length which sometimes nature just won’t provide.
Hair extensions are human hair or synthetic hair which is bonded on to your own hair. If done correctly by a trained stylist, using Racoon’s finest quality hair and their unique gentle bonding, they are tiny, almost invisible bonds which are comfortable to wear. You can run your fingers through your hair, wear it up or down, and human hair extensions can be curled, straightened and washed just as you do your own hair.
They take about four hours for a full head of hair to be applied and, if looked after correctly and regularly maintained during five or six weekly appointments, can last for years.
The latest systems include the unique Racoon Micro Weft (full head starts at £175) and Afro Weft which are small pre-bonded extensions that can be applied in minutes. A full head of gorgeous glossy Micro Wefts can be applied in 45 minutes and last for four to six weeks. The Micro Weft is easy to remove and can be re-used again and again – simply return to your hairdresser for removal and whilst you’re having your hair washed and blow-dried, your wefts are prepared ready to reapply.
Clip in hair extensions, like Racoon’s Clix (from £9.99), are a wonderful way to get instant colour, added glamour and a quick fix when you want to look extra special. Amazingly easy to apply, you just section your hair where you want the added hair, gently backcomb a one inch section of hair, clip in your extension and you’re off!
Where does the hair come from?
Racoon International guarantees the ethical sourcing of their hair. Racoon’s hair comes from Indian Temples using a historical traditional system. Known as tonsuring, the hair is donated to Hindu temples by women as a sacrifice to the gods to give thanks or ask for help. The money raised by selling the hair is used by the temples to feed the poor and to provide much needed resources within their communities.
Always get your hair from a reputable company with a guaranteed ethical sourcing policy and have it applied by a fully trained extension hairdresser. Check also that the hair you are buying has the British Standards Institute ISO 9001 accreditation (BSI kite market of quality).
