Whatever age or ability, you and the kids can make the most of cycling in the sunshine in one of these top destinations for bike enthusiasts.

Surrey Bikes – TenerifeToddlers on bikes: Tenerife

Most of the resorts in Tenerife are cycle friendly, a family with toddlers might enjoy renting a multi-seat Surrey bike.

Best routes: The main street of Avenida Rafael Puig in the resort has wide sidewalks that are ideal for road cycling. Head towards Playa Fanabe for a smooth ride.

Cycle hire: A family fun Surrey bike can be hired from Family Fun Bike Rentals in Playa de las Americas.

Juniors on bikes: Lanzarote

Lanzarote is so well equipped for cycling that it is the chosen destination to host the ironman competition that includes a gruelling 180km bike ride. or you can choose from dense pine forests, or a cycle along one of the long promenades followed by a dip in the sea and a volcanic adventure through the National Timanfaya Park.

Best routes: Warm up with a flat ride along Papagayo or go for an urban cycle around the sun-soaked streets of Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen, stopping along the way to take some photos for the family album.

Cycle hire: You can hire all sorts of bikes of all sizes, including child seats and helmets (which you have to wear by law in Lanzarote) from Electrobike in Playa Blanca. They will even deliver bikes to Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise.

Teens on bikes: Cyprus

CyclingCyprus is the perfect destination for families with teenagers who want to keep active. With a range of resorts but also plenty to see off the beaten track including ancient ruins and wild parks, they'll really be able to explore the island and you certainly won't be bored either. One of the best places to cycle is in the Troodos Mountains, a beautiful lunar landscape that is just waiting to be discovered.

Best routes: In the mountains, ride from the village of Pano Platres after a hearty breakfast and head to Karvounas, enjoying spectacular views along the way. If you fancy something a little less challenging then freewheel along Latchi Harbour and watch the sailing boats glide past.
