The first of Michelle Robinson's bedtime books published by Puffin that we read was Goodnight Digger, a book I thought wouldn't be of much interest to Harriet and which she absolutely adores.
So we were both looking forward to reading Goodnight Pirate which is beautifully illustrated by Nick East. The narrative takes a similar format of saying goodnight to all the toys associated with the child's pirate games and toys: from cutlass to parrot, buccaneers and treasure. Child and toys go off on a piratical adventure until in a whirlwind of words, the child is whisked back home and into his bed – still clutching his toy pirate.
The rhythm of this enchanting story and the language used makes Goodnight Pirate perfect for a bedtime story and it soon became a firm favourite with Harriet.
