Although
one in 20 children in the UK is
disabled, disabily is rarely represented in
children's books. Illustrator
Rebecca Elliott set about rectifying this with her own book
Just Because dedicated to her
disabled daughter and son.
Narrated by the younger brother,
Just Because, is a delightful look at
sibling love and pride. Clemmie "can't walk, talk, move around much" ... but "She makes sweet noise, wears silly hats, and pulls funny faces." In fact "Clemmie's my best friend and I love her..." This is a
poignantly told
tale that brings a tear to the eye.
The
illustrations by Rebecca Elliott are
fun and
appealing – to all
age groups.
Of
Just Because, the comment from
Jacqueline Wilson: "Deserves a place on every bookshelf" and I couldn't
agree more.
Just Because by Rebecca Elliott is available from
Amazon.
