One of the great aspects of visiting the city of
Luxembourg is that there is so much to
see and do within easy reach. The
Mudan is no exception. It is perhaps the furtherst
museum from the centre but it is
walkable or there are plenty of
buses. For the more
adventurous (or fit) there are
bikes to hire throughout the
city.
The
Mudan – Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean – is just a short walk from the European district of
Kirchberg where
EU offices and
departments are housed in modern buildings.
The building of the
Mudan – Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean – is a work of art in itself. Designed by the famous Chinese-American architect
Leoh Ming Pei, it stands against the vestiges of the
Fort Thungen and is set in the
Park Dräi Eechelen which offers fabulous views of the
old town of Luxembourg as well and a great
open space for younger visitors to
run around and let off steam!
What I particularly liked was the amount of
space given to
exhibits allowing the viewer to walk around and take in
installations from all perspectives.
This maze of
coloured perspex had openings wide enough for
wheelchairs and
buggies and was just inviting a
game or two!
Opening timesWednesday to Friday from 11am to 8pm
Saturday to Monday from 11am to 6pm
Closed on Tuesday
RatesAdults: € 5, concs: € 3 and under 18s

From
modern art to the modern city and a tour back into
Luxembourg's past on the
Pétrusse Express.
This
sight-seeing train is a great antidote to
tired feet and legs. It's also a wonderful way to get a real feel for the
city as you sit back and
listen to the
commentary in English, French or German.
The
Pétrusse Express leaves from
Place de la Constitution and the whole journey from past to present takes
50 minutes. The fare is
€9 for adults and
€5 for chidlren but there is a
30 per cent reduction with the
LuxembourgCard.
