Ocado delivery serviceWe are all looking to make economies in the current climate and buying a supermarket's own brand can cut costs – but sometimes with disappointing results!

Some own labels like M&S and Waitrose have become synonymous with excellent quality. Ocado, of course, is the home delivery side of Waitrose which is now establishing its own branding.

We tried a range of Ocado products. As I don't eat red meat, Julia Bairstow cooked the minced beef and was impressed with the quality. Frankly with most of the Ocado samples we had, one would be hard pushed to tell the difference between the Ocado version and a premium brand. The satsumas were particularly juicy and the tomatoes nicely firm just as I like them. We also enjoyed the chicken and mushroom pasties which I wouldn't normally have ordered but will now do so.

I have been using Ocado home delivery for several years now and am impressed by their service. Sadly they have reduced the number of "free delivery" slots but they are still there to be had if you plan ahead. Another plus factor is the "Tesco price match" and at the end of your order you may be offered less expensive versions of what you are ordering.

There's never any quibble about refunds and I've only ever had one late delivery. In all a gold star service!
