Let me start by saying that this safari is not for the faint of heart. It's not that you'll be meeting ferocious wild animals more that you have to have a head for heights as the Land-Rover makes its way up the mountainside on very narrow tracks and uneven terrain. Having said that, it was a wonderful experience.
The countryside and views outside of Bodrum are simply stunning and a welcome change from city life. My camera just couldn't do justice to the breathtaking vistas but there were plenty of stops along the way to absorb their majesty plus a visit to a village mosque.
Although our trip didn't take in a visit to the Turtle Lake, we did pass a tortoise en route to the village of Gozleme where we stopped to see carpets being woven in the traditional way by local women and learned how villagers met around the water pump to see who was eligible in the marriage market.
We then inspected a lot more carpets after a delicious buffet lunch which catered for all tastes and dietary requirements. A visit to the showroom/shop was optional. I went for a walk to soak up the peaceful atmosphere. We also managed to sample some Turkish delight in a nearby café before climbing back into our transport.
The afternoon included a trip to the Olive Oil Factory where you could see the whole process from the olives growing on the trees – some really old – to the finished bottles which you can buy. There's time for a refreshing drink, seated at one of the wonderful themed tables.
This trip would not be suitable for children under the age of eight and you should make sure you use a high SPF sun protection as well as taking hats and a long sleeved shirt. On some trips you might need your swimwear and towels.
