There is nothing worse than being burnt on your first day out in the sun, it ruins the rest of your time, causes pain and can have exceptionally damaging long term effects.
Make sure you use a high protection product. We have reviewed many on PWT and the latest one is Sesderma Repaskin Dry Touch SPF 30 & 50 (£22.40, £23.30, Sesderma.co.uk). Providing protection from both UVA and UVB rays, this "protects the skin on a cellular level as they penetrate to deeper levels, ensuring maximum protection so you can enjoy yourself in the sun safely".
I have been applying Sesderma Repaskin Dry Touch SPF50 on my face. The cream is white and shows where it is applied but is quickly absorbed, leaving the skin feeling nicely moisturised.
The Sesderma Repaskin Dry Touch SPF30 is a clear gel which I have been using on my body. This is perfect for those who don't like a "ghostly white" appearance after application of a sun cream. This feels great on my skin and I have had no tell-tale redness. Another plus factor for me is that all packaging and containers can be recycled.
PWT rating: ♥♥♥♥♥♥
Sesderma Repaskin Dry Touch SPF 30 & 50 £22.40/50ml and £23.30/50ml respectively (plus p&p of £4 on orders under £60) are available from Sesderma.co.uk
Although many people have now taken on board the message about sun protection, some do not apply enough product according to a recent survey by The Hospital Group. These are their recommendations of amounts to apply:
Arms (both):
46 per cent of Brits don’t apply enough sun cream to their arms. The recommended amount is one teaspoon but one in five use a ¼ teaspoon or less.
Legs (both):
49 per cent of Brits don’t apply enough sun cream to their legs. More than one in four use a ½ a teaspoon or less for both of their legs, whereas the recommended amount is actually 1 teaspoon per leg.
Front and back of body:
41 per cent of Brits don’t apply enough sun cream to the front and back of their bodies. The recommended amount is one teaspoon, but more than one in four use a ¼ of a teaspoon or less.
So the message is clear if you want to be confident that you are protected in the sun, don't skimp on the amount of product you use.
