One of the many joys of eating out in Greece, is the fact that that children are more than welcome. Eat in a restaurant or taverna more than once and you are greeted like old friends. We discovered Stavros Taverna on our first evening in Moraitika, Corfu. After leaving London very early in the morning, we were not at our best but were revived by the friendliness and charm of this restaurant just a few minutes walk from where we were staying at the Marina Studios.
Alongside the taverna is the cocktail bar (pictured above) with comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for an aperitif while studying the menu.
There's a children's menu which includes pizza and pasta dishes for 4.50€ and these are generous portions. For all diners, a free plate of bruschetta was included and the main courses offer the usual variety from souvlaki to grilled sardines, moussaka, Greek salad and dishes typical of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. We tried something different each time and were never disappointed.
Wine by the bottle is on the expensive side but the 500ml carafe of house wine at 6€ was very pleasant to drink.
We never really made it to the desert menu except for Harriet whose absolute favourite was the raspberry sorbet and it was to die for.
Asking for the bill, produced a small panna cotta – one of Olivia's favourites but sadly not for those of us who are dairy intolerant.
Stavros Taverna is open fronted with tables outside as well inside. Both areas are spacious and comfortable – plenty of room between tables. One drawback was the bees but our waitress produced a small tin in which coffee was burned. Apparently the bees don't like the smoke from this and buzz off! A useful tip.
The staff speak English and there is free Wi-Fi. This became Harriet's favourite place to eat in Corfu.
