If planning a holiday is a major part of the fun for you, then Travel: Where to Go When is book you’ll enjoy delving into. As most of us with children need to take our holidays within the allocated school vacation periods many of the chapters in this very beautiful book won’t be relevant – but what it is to dream!

Over 350 holiday ideas are organised on a month by month basis. The first two pages of any month give an overview with sections on: weather watch, festivals and culture, natural wonders, luxury and romance, active adventure and family getaways. So for May they recommend in this last category, Belize, Crete, Lanzarote, Lakeshore USA and Dordogne. It is also one of the best months, according to the authors, to visit the south of England.

For each destination there’s information on how to get there, getting around, and weather and recommendations for where to stay and what to eat which are quite brief. Helpful tips in the Dos and Don’ts are practical and elucidating like not leaving your chopsticks in a V-shape in Vietnam – it symbolises death! A suggested itinerary ensures you don’t miss the best bits through ignorance.

With spectacular photography throughout Travel: Where to Go When (and some of the images like the polar bear on melting ice haunting), this book is great for the armchair traveller too and may inspire us to venture further afield!
