Unesco designated Thursday 6 March as World Book Day in 2014. It's a day to celebrate writers, illustrators, books and reading when each child in full-time education will receive a £1 book token to exchange for one of the ten books listed below or as part payment for a more expensive book.
The 2014 £1 books are:
Age two plus:
- Hello, Hugless Douglas! by David Melling (Hodder)
- Little Book Day Parade by Emily Gravett (Macmillan)
Age five to seven:
- Barry Loser: I Am Not Nit a Loser by Jim Smith (Egmont)
- Fun with the Worst Witch by Jill Murphy (Puffin)
Age seven to nine:
- A Laura Marlin Mystery: The Midnight Picnic by Lauren St John (Orion)
- Horrible Histories: Terrible Trenches by Terry Deary (Scholastic)
Age nine-plus:
- Middle School: How I Got Lost in London by James Patterson (Young Arrow)
- Jack Petter by Sarah Lean (HarperCollins)
Young Adult:
- Rock War: The Audition by Robert Muchamore (Hodder)
- The Boy in the Smoke by Maureen Johnson (Hot Key Books)
World Book Day Book Tokens are valid until 30 March, 2014
