From Macmillan Children's Books, two charming adventures to be read with small children, these board books written and illustrated by father and daughter team, Chloe and Mick Inkpen are a delight.
In Zoe and Beans Hello ladybird! Zoe has found a ladybird but it escapes and in looking for it she and her dog Beans find all manner of other things from a squeaky ball to a snail and a soggy pink party popper. The illustrations are gorgeous (I particularly like Zoe's dress) and on each page you have to find where the ladybird is hiding. The storyline is pitch perfect and the book will lend itself well to pre-readers who are getting used to following words and guessing/reading some of them.
Zoe and Beans are joined by two friends in Zoe and Beans We're not scared! No they're not scared of going fast and falling off a scooter, of balloons going pop or of washing their hair but when it comes to going to bed they do ask to have the light left on.
Both books offer lots of opportunities for discussion (words that begin with S on a page: slug, snail and spider) and Harriet (four in April) absolutely loved them.
