PlayPlax is back to entertain another
generation and I couldn’t be
happier. The game is
aesthetically very
pleasing, has a strong hint of
nostalgia and this new version is 100 per cent
true to its
original design.This beautiful
classic toy was invented in
1966 by
Patrick Rylands and will be familiar to many who grew up in the 70s. I played with
PlayPlax at friends' houses and now thanks to this
new edition can enjoy it with my
own children.
The transparent
Perspex look (actually polystyrene) coloured pieces are
lovely to use and have been made in the
original factory in Cheshire. The
colours are true to the
original design thanks to the factory
keeping and now using the
original dye recipes. The
48 interlocking squares offer endless possibilities for
construction and come packed in a simple cardboard box.
PlayPlax is a perfect
summer holiday game because its appeal is cross generational and is
as much fun to play together as alone.
Pippa, aged three made
low rise houses for her soft toys and plastic animals while
Toby, aged six was keen to
construct as high a
tower as possible and
curious that I had played with the
game as a child when it seemed very "
modern and new" to him. The
transparent properties of the construction
definitely add to their beauty.
This
game invites
creativity from old and
young fans alike and I look forward to enjoying
PlayPlax for many years to come.
