We've already reviewed two board books featuring Zoe and Beans by Chloe and Mick Inkpen: Hello Ladybird! and We're Not Scared! which were and still are a great hit with Harriet. So Zoe and Beans Pirate Treasure! a large format paperback was a perfect choice for taking away with us on our short trip to Guernsey.
Zoe and her faithful companion, Beans, are joined by her friend Oscar and his baby sister, Evie, on the beach where they are going to build a sandcastle. While everyone else digs, Evie finds some something shiny in the sand – a gold coin! This leads them all on an adventure to find more pirate treasure via a rock pool, their blow-up crocodile, an island, a cave. But no treasure is found and they all feel rather grumpy – except Beans who sniffs Evie's gold coin and leads them all to the treasure...
This is an exciting adventure story and a perfect holiday read with preschoolers. The illustrations are charming and prompt lots of subjects for discussion.
