Suffolk’s only island,
Havergate, became an
RSPB nature reserve in 1948, and for
almost 60 years has been home to the
famous colony of
breeding avocets. There are several
birdwatching hides on the island, allowing
close up views of a wide variety of
wading birds, ducks and
terns.
Boats will leave
Orford Quay every half-hour from
10am to 2.30pm over the four days from Saturday
18 August to Tuesday
21 August, allowing
visitors to see this
unique island and enjoy specially
arranged guided walks. Boats carry a maximum of
12 passengers and
demand is likely to be high, so
early booking is recommended.
The
round trip, including a
guided walk, takes approximately
two and a half hours.
Binoculars are available on loan f
ree of charge. Light
refreshments, including homemade cakes, sandwiches, tea and coffee, can be
purchased on the island.
